OUR PHILOSOPHY

“Everyone Plays” philosophy. Every effort will be made to maintain a developmental program that is well balanced, and every eligible child who makes a commitment to attend practices and games on a consistent basis, pays the required fee (scholarships are available) and is a Holy Trinity parishioner, every effort will be made on our part to place them on a team. If the team is oversubscribed then either a second team will be formed or players will be scheduled for a set number of games on a rotating basis and/or extra games and scrimmages will be scheduled so that every player receives meaningful playing time. Minimum playing time guidelines will be observed. Within this team philosophy the coaches and players will strive for personal improvement, excellence, teamwork and winning basketball games.

Holy Trinity Parish Basketball Offerings:

Competitive Teams representing Holy Trinity Parish in the Union County CYO league.

12 game schedule on weekends from December-March (5th-8th grades). The expected fee is $150.00. 12 games for Pee Wee league (3rd-4th grades). The expected fee is $125.00. 6 games for Rookie league (2nd grade). The expected fee is $50.00. 10 games for High School boys (9th-12th) Eligible High School boys can not be on another High School team. The expected fee is $100.00.  Team practices start around mid October. Practice is Wednesday evenings during the season and some Saturdays in the pre-season. If teams are oversubscribed, roster spots are prioritized based on seniority, prior team involvement and parish affiliation. League uses “running clock” timing so games are relatively short. As such, a roster size of 8 to 10 per game is appropriate. Some teams may carry extra players on the practice roster for development, back-up and rotations.

Coaching Requirements

At least two criminally background checked adults must be present at all times with the participants. All Coaches will need to submit their signature that they have received and will follow the Archdiocesan Policies with regard to contact with minors. Criminal background check forms must be submitted immediately before contact with children occurs. Paperwork may be obtained by calling Patricia Martin at 908-233-6151. Coaches are also required to attend the Protecting God’s Children Workshop. Please see the Parish and Diocesan Schedules at the links below.

In addition to the above requirements attendance at the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic is also required. This curriculum is designed to help coaches minimize the risk of injury to participants, enhance coach’s effectiveness and protect volunteers from civil suits. On line Safety Training is available with the National Center for Sports Safety. The links are below.
